We’re returning NC+ to the West. Who we are. Where we’ve come from. What we stand for. As part of that action, we’re re-introducing the NC+ system for numbering corn hybrids. We’ve gone into the archives. We’ve spoken with past NC+ product managers and salesmen. The result is the number system NC+ was built on. To be clear: the existing, consistent-performing hybrids and varieties you know will not change. But from this point forward, we’re going back to the roots of NC+.
Here are the maturity ranges for our new hybrid numbering system:
1001-1999: RM 93 and below
2000-2999: RM 94-97
3000-3999: RM 98-101
4000-4999: RM 102-105
5000-5999: RM 106-109
6000-6999: RM 110-113
7000-7999: RM 114-117
8000-8999: RM 118 and above
Offensive position hybrid with towering potential. Gets its yield from a tremendous, flexible ear with 18-20 row girth. Best fit in above average and high yield environments. Excellent emergence, vigor and uniformity gets 99-90 out of the gate with highly established stands. Stalk and root combinations are very good, especially in a medium-tall plant. Big flex ear performs well in moderate seeding and variable-rate seeding operations. Has great performance east and central, though will want to caution in areas with Goss’ Wilt history. Big potential across farms with environment potential and good management.

Outstanding yield potential coupled with an arsenal of terrific agronomics led by emergence, stalk and root strength, low greensnap risk, and drought tolerance. The girthy (18-20 rows), flex ear, and the high kernel count provides the yield that competes anywhere. This ear type is a great choice for VR seeding and increases performance in lower seeding rates at the same time can flex up and take advantage of a luxurious growing season. This hybrid moves well north and south of maturity zone cutting a wide path of utilization. Use caution westward, on farms with a history of Goss’ Wilt.

True 101 day hybrid with dominating yield performance. Full flex ear with very good drought and heat tolerances. Superior green snap tolerance and excellent Gosss Wilt tolerance make for good western movement. Good stalks and roots are protected by superior tolerance to Anthracnose Stalk Rot. Adapted to all yield environments with best performance noted in and north of zone. Solid Common and Southern Rust tolerances with very good drydown and test weight. Very good seedling vigor for early planting.

Solid agronomics, consistent ear size, and good disease tolerance powers 02-89 across average and high yield acres. Performance across northen Iowa, into Wisconsin and Illinois is very strong. Ear flex is in kernel size/depth and density, the flowering is average for maturity. Good response to additional population, fungicide and fertility. Nice tonnage and digestability for silage use. This VT4P hybrid brings black cutworm, western bean cutworm and corn earworm protection over a SS with very good corn rootworm protection.

A hybrid that weathers difficult western conditions and low to moderate yield levels as well as top end, highly managed farms. Simply excellent emergence, early season robustness and stand establishment. A smaller plant type with medium height and medium ear placement. Is excellent against greensnap though will want to monitor late season integrity and plant health. Experience shows this hybrid may lose tops under stressful conditions, though is stable and strong below the ear. This hybrid will have great response to fungicide. The strong ear flex allows this hybrid to take advantage of a favorable July.

Top yield potential with quick emergence, vigor and lower greensnap risk. 03-63 has earlier flowering with long grain fill, and good husk cover. Nice disease package with tar spot tolerance and great Goss Wilt tolerance. Big ear flex potential that does not require high populations in high yield environments. Great silage potential with staygreen for longer harvest window. Best positioned in fields with good drainage. PowerCore® Enlist® adds the ability to apply Liberty® herbicide to this product.

Top end yield potential in a widely adapted hybrid that moves north and south very well, a strong competitor in the 102 - 108 RM window. Strong agronomics and a moderate plant size make for solid stalk quality and lowers greensnap risk. Is average speed out of the ground though uniform in emergence. Has very good overall tolerance to fungal diseases; NCLB and GLS in addition to great defense against Goss’ Wilt. Late, lower stalk quality is good though not uncommon for tops to come out above the ear in tougher, more stressful environments.

Moderate plant size that solidifies the stalk strength and lowers green snap risk. Is average speed out of the ground though uniform in emergence. Has very good overall tolerance to fungal diseases; NCLB and GLS in addition to great defense against Goss’ Wilt. Late, lower stalk quality is good though not uncommon for tops to come out above the ear. Drought and heat tolerance combined with Goss defense makes for a strong corn on corn choice.

NEW BEANS THAT MAY RING A BELL
We’re taking soybeans back to a familiar place as well. We’re re-introducing the NC+ system for numbering soybean varieties. The existing, consistent-performing varieties you know will not change. But from this point forward, new varieties will feature the trait initial after the maturity number. It's all part of an effort to return to the NC+ you remember.
F2252 made substantial gains in Sudden Death Sydrome, Iron Deficiency Chlorosis and Sclerotinia White Mold field tolerance. Defensive traits are resistance for Soybean Cyst Nematodes, Stem Canker and phytophthora (Rps 1c). This Medium-Tall variety offers very good standability with an excellent branching tendency. Drought tested and proven during three years of field trials. A deep green and healthy canopy throughout the growing season. F2252 has an upright branching characteristic with very good standability at harvest.

This variety brings enhanced standability, phytophthora field tolerance and adds genetic resistance to Brown Stem Rot. F3252 is a Medium-Tall variety with excellent Charcoal Root Rot and stress tolerance. Strong multi-year performance has made this an ‘on-farm favorite’ with consistency. 38F51 is a Medium-Tall plant type with excellent lateral branching and adaptabilty into high yielding situations, especially irrigation and the very good soils of northeast Kansas. It responds well to narrow and wide row environments due to its Medium-Bush plant type. Avoid high pH soils and watch for Metribuzin and PPO carryover from a previous corn crop. It has very good tolerance to Sudden Death Syndrome with resistance to Stem Canker, SCN and phytophthora.
